Kyushu (九州) is the third largest island and south western most of Japan’s main islands. There are seven prefectures located there: Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Oita, and Saga. Kyushu’s must visit spots are Mt.Aso, Kumamoto Castle etc and Kyushu is blessed with many hot springs such as Beppu Onsen, Yufuin Onsen, Kurokawa Onsen, Kirishima Onsen, Ureshino Onsen, and Takeo Onsen. JR Kyushu offer 3 types of Rail pass which are All Kyushu Area Pass, Northern Kyushu Area Pass and Southern Area Pass.

The All Kyushu Area Pass is a rail pass for exclusive use by foreign visitors to Japan, providing unlimited travel on JR trains on the island of Kyushu (except the Sanyo Shinkansen) for 3, 5 or 7 consecutive days.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Only travelers who are visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor” and have a passport bearing this stamp, with a short-term visa to stay in Japan for no longer than 90 days. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
  • Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass.

EXCHANGE

  • The voucher must be exchanged within a 3-month period from the date of issue.
  • To exchange the voucher for the Pass you will need your passport.
  • The start date of the Pass can no longer be changed once the pass has been exchanged.
  • JR Exchange Offices (Offices are subject to change or discontinuation without notice. ):
    • Hakata Station
    • Kokura Station
    • Mojiko Station
    • Kumamoto Station
    • Saga Station
    • Nagasaki Station
    • Oita Station
    • Beppu Station
    • Kagoshima-Chuo
    • Sasebo Station
    • Miyazaki Station

VALIDITY

  • Seat reservations can be made for free at JR Kyushu ticketing office (Midori-no-madogushi) in Japan
  • In order to travel in first class (Green cars) you will have to pay additional fees. Non-reserved Ordinary class cars can be accessed freely.
  • JR Kyushu Rail Pass can be passed through the automatic ticket gate. (Please notice not to forget picking it up)
  • Unlimited use of JR Kyushu trains on Kyushu, including all trains along the Kyushu Shinkansen (Hakata-Kagoshima-Chuo) and limited express trains, but excluding the Sanyo Shinkansen (Hakata-Shin-Osaka).

*Shinkansen (between Kokura and Hakata), subways, buses or private railways are not applicable.

CANCELLATION

  • The starting date written on the All Kyushu Area Pass cannot be changed
  • The voucher can be refunded if it has never been exchanged in Japan.
  • 15% of the price will be charged as a refund handling fee.
  • Refund is allowed only before the Exchange Order exchange to Rail Pass and it must submit for refund within 12 months from the issuance date.
  • The refund process required approximately 2 months to complete.
  • We’ll refund by cheque for cash and NETS Payment, by credit card for credit card payment.
  • Neither an Exchange Order nor a All Kyushu Area Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.

aNORTHERN KYUSHU AREA PASS


Northern Kyushu Area Pass

5 DAYS

JR Kyushu offer 3 types of Rail pass which are All Kyushu Area Pass, Northern Kyushu Area Pass and Southern Kyushu Area Pass. The Northern Kyushu Area pass is valid on all JR Kyushu lines above the line formed by Kumamoto/Misumi and the area north of Oita. This pass unlimited travel on 3, or 5 consecutive days.

aSOUTHERN KYUSHU AREA PASS


Southern Kyushu Area Pass

3 DAYS

JR Southern Kyushu Area Pass includes shinkansen rides betweeen Kumamoto and Kagoshima-chuo (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame), local trains and limited express trains within the designated covered area.

  • Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass.

EXCHANGE

  • The activation date of the pass, once the pass has been obtained, can no longer be changed.
  • The voucher is valid for 3 months after purchase.
  • You must present your passport in order to exchange a voucher for a pass.
  • Ticket offices where travelers are able to exchange their voucher:
    • Station: Kagoshima-chuo, Miyazaki, Miyazaki airport and Kumamoto, Oita

VALIDITY

    The applicable lines of Southern Kyushu Area Pass:

  • Reserved and non-reserved seats for all shinkansen (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame) within the designated covered area. Shinkansen rides are limited to the portion between Kumamoto and Kagoshima-chuo.
  • Reserved and non-reserved seats for all limited express trains within the designated covered area.
  • Local trains within the designated covered area.
  • Additional charge is required when using Green Car (superior class).
  • The pass cannot be used for JR Kyushu buses, B&S Miyazaki buses, the Cruise Train Seven stars in Kyushu and the ARU RESSHA (Sweet Train).
  • The pass is valid only within the JR Kyushu service area even though there maybe some lines in Kyushu operated by other companies.
  • Unavailability of seating due to full occupancy shall not be subject to refunds.
  • Reservation can be made for free at JR Kyushu ticketing office in Japan.
