Hokkaido(北海道)  is the second largest main island of Japan, and the largest and northernmost prefecture. It is also one of the most popular places to visit in Japan. Hokkaido Rail Pass – Purchasing Procedure



  • Only travelers who visiting Japan under the status of “Temporary visitor”, and has a passport bearing this stamp can use this pass. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
  • Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass.


Exchange and purchase can only be made during office hours.

※The designated counters for exchange and purchase are subject to change. Some JR Travel Service Centers are closed during the New Year holidays.


  • Unlimited use of JR trains in Hokkaido except the Hokkaido Shinkansen.
  • Unlimited use of JR Hokkaido Bus lines, except Twinkle Buses and the lines from Sapporo to Asahikawa, Monbetsu, Obihiro, Kiroro and Erimo.
  • Seat reservations can be mad for free.
  • The 3 Day, 5 Day and 7 Day Passes are valid on consecutive calendar days. The Flexible 4 Day Pass is valid on four calendar days of your choice within a 10-day period that starts on the day on which you exchange your voucher to the actual pass.
  • Only foreign visitors to Japan (on a temporary visitor visa) can use the Hokkaido Rail Pass. It cannot be used by residents of Japan.


  • The starting date written on the JR Hokkaido Rail Pass cannot be changed
  • The voucher can be refunded if it has never been exchanged in Japan.
  • 15% of the price will be charged as a refund handling fee.
  • Refund is allowed only before the Exchange Order exchange to Rail Pass and it must submit for refund within 12 months from the issuance date.
  • The refund process required approximately 2 months to complete.
  • We’ll refund by cheque for cash and NETS Payment, by credit card for credit card payment.
  • Neither an Exchange Order nor a JR Hokkaido Rail Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.
