 JAMAE MOSQUE
Don’t be too surprised to find a Muslim Mosque right in the heart of Chinatown. One of the oldest national monuments, the mosque shines out from the surrounding buildings with its light shade of mint-green walls and two minarets (spires with conical crowns). Be astounded by the prayer halls within, which have a mix of Western designs (Tuscan and Doric columns) and Eastern designs (Chinese green glazed tiles).

SRI MARIAMMAN TEMPLE
Just across the road stands this South Indian Temple, yet another national monument.  It is dedicated to the goddess Mariamman, known for her healing powers against serious illnesses and diseases. Don’t be decieved by the exquisite but traditional entrance tower, this temple has a modern auditorium fully-equipped for weddings and other events within.
Catch the fire-walking ceremony and other festivals held at different times of the year, for the ultimate eye-opener.

 PAGODA STREET
Finally, something Chinese! Named after the prominent entrance tower of the Sri Mariamman Indian temple, the street is flanked by beautifully preserved Chinese shophouses on either side. One significant building restoration here would be of the Old Chinese Opera House, which was badly damaged by the bombardment during World War ll.

Pagoda Street is a favorite of locals and tourists alike as great bargains for fine souvenirs and traditional Chinese merchandises can be found! The local Chinese also drop by to shop for wedding dowry, usually comprising of daily necessities for the newlywed. Learn about these interesting gifts of love and what they represent.
 CHINATOWN COMPLEX
There is, without a doubt, no lack of good food around Chinatown. However, if you wish to visit one location that houses a huge variety of delicious local food, look no further. Be spoilt for choice as the hawker centre here boasts of over 200 food stalls.

Besides the food galore, this building also houses what locals call, a ‘wet’ market. Locals visit this market regularly to purchase fresh produce like fish and poultry. So even if you don’t intend to buy anything, an experience of what local lifestyle is like awaits you.
BUDDHA TOOTH RELIC TEMPLE

A newly constructed temple since 2007, it has already been recognized as one of Chinatown’s most popular attraction. Said to be designed by a local monk and a team comprising of local and foreign consultants, the temple reflects a Tang Dynasty architectural style, fused with elements of Mandala (the Buddha Universe).

Feel an overwhelming sense of grandness as you place your eyes on the Tooth Relic housed within (it’s 320kg, 2-metres tall and made of solid gold!). You might also take a liking to the simple vegetarian fare that they serve for free.
   REST OF CHINATOWN
The tour will come to an end at the temple, so feel free to explore the rest of Chinatown on your own! There is still much more for you to discover – the culture, the food and the fantastic shopping bargains!
