Ryokans are Japanese style inns that allow tourists to experience traditional Japanese lifestyle. Tourists get to stay in a room floored with Tatami (straw mat), changing into a Yukata (robe) after taking an Onsen bath, and sleeping on a Futon. Kaiseki cuisine is usually served to the room so that tourists can savour the multi-course dinner slowly. Some may provide western style accommodation (i.e. typical hotel rooms).

Kaiseki cuisine

A traditional multi-course Japanese dinner that uses the freshest ingredients, Kaiseki is commonly regarded as the ultimate Japanese cuisine. Onsen

Onsen is a hot-spring bath that is believed to provide health benefits and great relaxation for the mind and body. Baths are gender-separated but individuals who still feel uncomfortable with the public sharing of Onsen, may request to bathe in "kashikiri" (private) baths or ask for a room with a personal Onsen which are available in some Ryokans.
